The Kura Home office staff receives a lot of questions when scheduling an appointment, but the one that pops up most often has to be, “When and how often should I get my air ducts cleaned?”
In an average home, we recommend getting your air ducts cleaned every 3-4 years. In that amount of time, dust, hair, pollen, and debris has had the opportunity to settle into your ductwork. The cleaning covers your full system, including both supply and return vents, so you know that the entire ductwork is receiving the most thorough cleaning possible.
There are also major events in the home that might require your air duct cleaned to be cleaned sooner than 3-4 years:
Pets: If you have multiple pets in the home, that can increase the amount of pet hair and dander inside your vents so you may want to consider every 2-3 years.
Newborn: A newborn baby is a blessing, and like any parent, you want to bring them home to the safest environment possible. Consider bringing them home to the best quality of air too.
Home Renovations: If you had a major home renovation completed in the last 3-6 months, the sheetrock and debris left behind from drilling and sawing can create some major backup in your system. This should all be cleaned out after the renovation is fully completed.
New Home: We recommend getting your ducts cleaned when moving into a new home. The previous homeowners may have had pets that left behind dander or a smoke/musty smell you’d like to remove. Start off on the right foot in your new home with the freshest air possible.
